Poem 20160316

we wave goodbye, farewell
and wait and watch to see
which of us will be first
the first to drop their hand
the first to give in to
the inevitable

no way to prevent it
this game of fearful thoughts
a dimming of brightness
a cooling of passions
less i love you more than
why do you love me less

Poem 20160225c

silent birds
there will be no spring
no blossoms
no green buds
to reach for the yellow sun
no signaled ending

winter sleeps
and in his flawed dream
his eyes close
then open
a cold world shot through with ice
white intensity

through these trees
a cold river runs
flowing true
wearing light
bold fish stare holding your gaze
your feet splash–shivers

Trees

Poem 20160127

silence steals
between all our words
–like a sponge
it expands
filling up the space between
what we say and don’t

quieting even
the slow sounds of our breathing
–where to rest our eyes
our lives are made of silence
we don’t look at each other

our hearts drum drum drum
beating beneath the silence
a silent rhythm
