watching for hours
slowly, slowly without wings
the orange moon flies
——
floating and leaving no trace
watching for hours
slowly, slowly without wings
the orange moon flies
——
extruded from my own life
like a play doh snake
i await my new skin
with trepidation
will it be scales this time
or flames
or just ashes
transformation is
always like childbirth
only you’re forcing yourself
out of your own birth canal
–if you have one–
and you’re never really sure
what’s coming
until it’s out
i want to touch you
with my hands
and then
i want you to touch me
a simple exchange of heat
between two lovers
enough heat
so that we have to
throw off the sheets
musty motel, the bedsprings groan
my suitcase and a broken phone
the voice i hear forever moans
never alone, never alone
my pocket’s full of finger bones
worn smooth like ancient magic stones
guarded by shrouded, cackling crones
shrill monotones, shrill monotones
outside the blackbirds all have flown
inside blossom the seeds i’ve sown
the shadows growl, calls the unknown
a blank headstone, a blank headstone
It is the longest night…
…where the moon has appeared but you have not.

Two Phrase Story #33
The premise is simple. I provide one phrase every Thursday, an incomplete string of words, and it is up to you to complete it in your own, inimitable way. However you like, taking it in any direction you want.
our hearts
beat out
the same
rhythm
but mistimed
as if i were from
the past
and you are here
in the present
and we see each other
as ghosts see the living
through a veil or a mist
or as if we boarded
the same train
felt the rattle of the rails
at the same crossings
sat in adjacent seats
my hand on the armrest
where you place your hand
me looking out the window
where you lean your head
fogging it with your breath
the same journey
but on different schedules
different timetables
the groom lifts the veil
readies himself for a kiss
the lich plans elsewise

Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt
Challenge #88 Lift&Plan
we wave goodbye, farewell
and wait and watch to see
which of us will be first
the first to drop their hand
the first to give in to
the inevitable
no way to prevent it
this game of fearful thoughts
a dimming of brightness
a cooling of passions
less i love you more than
why do you love me less

Weekly Writing Prompt #28
(5) Words: | WAVE | COOL| PREVENT | BRIGHT | WATCH |
the last fall of rain
did little to put out
a fire burning
in the marrow of my bones
smoke enough to choke
and a rough slurry of ashes
were all that cleansing
could effect
the heavens will have to spare
more water than there is
in all seven seas
to drown me
peach blossoms fallen
making way for new green buds
i don’t mind waiting
