Poem 20150307

let’s not forget where we came from
and what we are
sweating sacks of meat
full of holes and sticky protrusions
gibbering blobs of flesh
fire and wetness and groping hands
slobbering mouths and undulating tongues
winking and blinking in the sunlight
scurrying and huddling together on moonless nights
and finding peace only in others
like outselves

Poem 20150305

watching the moon slide up in the sky
like a giant ball of yellow wax
makes me think about all of those sunrises
we’ve missed laying in bed on the weekend
or sunsets because dinner needed to be cooked
or the pets needed to be fed
and i think
maybe it’s a fair exchange
to see the moon in this dark sky
because we’re here,
and the moon,
she isn’t going anywhere for awhile

Poem 20150304

you’ve done something to your hair
i think
it’s still as long
but styled in waves
that make me think of
ribbons more than beaches
and a spot of color
varied gold and brown
with black spots
the coloring of a hawk
you pass by
dressed for business
and barely have time
to give me a smile
and hint of your perfume
but it is enough

Poem 20150303

why not give everything a title
novels have them, after all
and most songs
sure
some composers’ works are catalogued
by number
obtuse systems of organization
that only a librarian
or a programmer could love
how about these small collections of words
you drive onto the screen
like a shepherd running sheep
why not stamp something at the top
of the page
declare what it is before you make everyone
dive in
and swim through the words
so we know if we’ll be swimming in a lake
or a pool
or a latrine

hold your breath
and jump in, i say

Poem 20150302

would you, could you
do it here?
would you, could you
do it there?
would you, could you
in a box?
would you, could you
in your socks?
on a table
in a car
in a hotel
near or far?
semi-dressed
or fully nude?
so polite
or very rude?
put it in
or pull it out?
laugh and cry
and scream and shout?
you could! you could!
you really should!
’cause spring is here
it’s in the air
and you should do it
everywhere.

Poem 20150301

tell me something
you’ve never told
another person

something
you don’t want
anyone else to know
but don’t want me to repeat
but something you need me know

something that binds us together

one person

i’m looking out
through your eyes
when i wake up
i’m breathing
with your mouth
when i say your name
it’s your skin that i feel
when i touch you
your heart beating
in my chest

Poem 20150228b

you walk up the stairs
behind you
i ascend, my hands on your hips
i feel your bones
and as you step up
a practical lesson in your anatomy
as your thigh, so close to me, rises
your hip rotates up
first the right
then the left
and then again
and again
until we reach the top

Poem 20141116

Did a ton of yard work yesterday and I was too tired to even think about writing a poem.  We’ll see what I can squeezez out today.

The coyote stopped
Stared into the flashlight
While we crossed the street
It’s coat was grey and shiny
It looked well-fed
Though I hadn’t heard about
Any missing pets

It kept its distance
We kept ours

The dog on the end of the leash
Who can’t see well in the dark
Didn’t catch a scent of his distant, wild cousin
Or there would have been whined greetings
But I think
The coyote appreciated
Our giving him his space
And he turned
And prowled the perimeter of the bushes
Looking for dinner
