little new in the news
(little love lost between late lovers)
i thought i was a cynic
defined once as a failed, frustrated romantic
but
that’s a digression
that’s a depression
that’s a diversion
everyone wants to be
a snowflake these days
perfect
unique
fragile
as ephemeral as a cherry blossom
and so so cold
so cold you can’t expect
any warmth
just a glint of light
reflected and refracted
an impermanent diamond
no one is a snowflake
you’re all just raindrops
and you’re not even making
me wet
do i contradict your worldview?
very well then, i contradict it
what we have here is a (failure)
to communicate
but it’s only because my mirror
has darkened and cracked
on a different xy coordinate
than your own one dimensional glass
——
Love it! Great rhythm and you’re talking about things on all of our minds right now.
“and you’re not even making me wet..” haha, great line
Thank you very much. I’m glad the rhythm works. I didn’t read it out loud so I wasn’t sure.
I read out loud often to myself. My husband doesn’t even ask anymore he just ignores it.
😂
Ha! Quite a battle cry there, but very witty with it. Like the repetitive, strong rhythm of
that’s a digression
that’s a depression
that’s a diversion
And then the raindrops not even making you wet!
Thank you.
(miss) communication breakdown to reception please. your services are no longer required.
👍
I liked these lines: “no one is a snowflake
you’re all just raindrops” At least we’re raindrops.
Really like your words. Much wisdom in the last stanza.
Kind regards
Anna :o]
Thanks so much! 🙏
Lots of failed communication these days. I particularly like the last four lines.
Thank you, Merril. Those lines, or something like them, were the starting point for this point.
Well done.
clever write. 🙂
Thank you!
“No one is a snowflake; you’re all raindrops”….I’ll be pondering those words for a while now! Good read.
Thanks. I’m sorry if I stuck something icky in your head.
Inspired ❤️
Thank you!
“little new in the news” So true.
“(little love lost between late lovers)” This made me sad. I read a short story recently about a break-up (forget where) in which both lovers were regretful, both longing for what was. My reaction was “Why don’t they try again? Why give up on love just because it’s hard?” I suppose that’s another example of snowflakes. 😦
It is sad. Sometimes we just want to protect ourselves so much, we miss out on what we can have.
