the line of breaking light (20170130)

we await the turning of the earth
pretending we turn it
beneath our feet
but that which is shifting
is inside us
a tidal force within
the pit of our stomachs
guiding our sleepy eyes
toward the horizon
and the first light
of dawn

  1. Another unique perspective. Is this avian logic? I love the idea of our guts following the movement of the sun, and our individual outlook changing the appearance of things.

  2. Gorgeous quadrille. It reminds me of something I read in “The Alchemist” by Paul Coelho. Have you read it?

This quote from the book reminds me of your poem:

We are told from childhood onward that everything we want to do is impossible. We grow up with this idea, and as the years accumulate, so too do the layers of prejudice, fear and guilt. There comes a time when our personal calling is so deeply buried in our soul as to be invisible. But it’s still there.

    1. That’s cool. I’ve never read it, but I see him referenced everywhere. I may have to break down and get one of his books.

And thank you for the compliment.
