we await the turning of the earth
pretending we turn it
beneath our feet
but that which is shifting
is inside us
a tidal force within
the pit of our stomachs
guiding our sleepy eyes
toward the horizon
and the first light
of dawn

I think we sense the movement within…
Another unique perspective. Is this avian logic? I love the idea of our guts following the movement of the sun, and our individual outlook changing the appearance of things.
I think it is a kind of avian logic, orienting us toward the brightest light.
Birds are certainly brighter than we are.
I feel hopeful with this piece…
Thank you. I’m glad it spoke to you.
Very thought-provoking.
Thanks so much!
I like the idea of the tidal force acting on our stomachs.
I think it’s true. We all get gut feelings, like we have some kind of psychic magnet.
This has such a hypnotic feel to it… sigh… Excellent write! ❤️
Thanks very much!
An intriguing and thoughtful piece.
Thank you for saying so 🙏.
I like this. We tell ourselves we’re in charge, but really it’s something deeper.
Exactly.
This tidal force seems to be our guiding light, even if we don’t always follow it consciously.
It’s one of those things you have to let guide you, I guess.
Gorgeous quadrille. It reminds me of something I read in “The Alchemist” by Paul Coelho. Have you read it?
This quote from the book reminds me of your poem:
We are told from childhood onward that everything we want to do is impossible. We grow up with this idea, and as the years accumulate, so too do the layers of prejudice, fear and guilt. There comes a time when our personal calling is so deeply buried in our soul as to be invisible. But it’s still there.
That’s cool. I’ve never read it, but I see him referenced everywhere. I may have to break down and get one of his books.
And thank you for the compliment.
We are all “trees” rooted to the ground. We move it as much as it moves us! A solid poem, as the crow flies!
Thanks so much for leaf-ing a comment!
