the grass explodes
out of the earth
in ragged patterns
begging for the mower’s blade
the trees bud green and white
with fresh leaves
and new branches
the flowers that have survived
winter
open their faces
unfolding like flags
we won’t surrender
we reach for the sun
we have waited for spring
and spring has not
forgotten us

It’s Friday!
Haiku Friday!
Yes, I know it was a haiku yesterday (more or less) but that’s because it was the new year. Oshogatsu Omedetou Gozaimasu!
five little swallows
hop on the ground among bushes
hoping for early spring
Poem 20141220
let’s draw a map on your skin
whipped cream for snow
chocolate sauce for roads
blue icing for rivers
fresh spring leaves from trees for the landscape
rose petals for every point of interest
let’s study the map
and explore the territory
Poem 20141210
with the hint of warmer weather
after a cool spring
i ate lunch on park bench
you found me there
walking with a mutual friend
who suspiciously had to go
so you sat next to me
we skated along the edge
of summer
our last year
while you educated me on
the various types of flicking
vicious, light, and the rest
i accused you later of
using magic to capture me
but you swore it was just
the flicking
Poem 20141122
Purple and white
The buds nestle
Among green leaves
Waiting to open
