the most pleasant sound
in the world is a typewriter
key striking a fresh piece of
paper and leaving a smudge free
ink-filled crater
behind
a close second the sound
of the bell when the right margin
has been attained
like a marathon runner
crossing
a finish line only to hear
the advance of the platen
zipper crunch slide to the left
finish line is just
another word for starting line
Brings back memories. Something special about the sound and feel of the ol’ manual typewriter. The hypnotic rhythm….ding!
π
There really is. Each stroke deliberate. No backspace. No undo.
Of course, if I typed my work, it would be a mess.
π€£ππ€£ππ€£ enjoyed seeing that again, Ben. Used to have that saved in my computer years ago – still makes me literally laugh out loud. Glad to know it’s still out there, thank you!
It’s a classic.!I’m not sure it will ever disappear. I still have it on my pc though .JIC As for its LOL capacity I can repost it is till in good working order. (IGWO) π
Mine too. π
Great sound: zipper crunch slide to the left! It’s years since I heard that – thanks for the memory!
π
Nostalgic and lovely poem. I love the sound of a typewriter and yes, the bell, as well.
Ask not for whom the bell π tolls! I’m happy you enjoyed it.
π
π Sorry. Just couldn’t resist.
π
π
Clever and satisfying ending!
Just like pulling that page out of the typewriter.

Oh, that brings back memories! β€ Loved reading this one
Thank you!
i miss my Underwood
I have a Remington my father in law gave me that I recently had repaired. I’m a little afraid to use it.
I can imagine finding ribbons is a bit of chore these days.
The typewriter repairman sold me some. π
There is something about that sound–though I would have a difficult time actually writing on one. I enjoy the ease of a computer. π
Love the sense and images of this. particularly:
key striking a fresh piece of
paper and leaving a smudge free
ink-filled crater
It’s always the best feeling.
