mash the avocado with a fork
leave some chunks
add lemon juice, salt, garlic
chili to your tolerance
slice an onion in half
while it still lives
in its skin
press your thumb
into a layer below
the dried outer paper
feel the layers separate
your thumb a medium
a wedge dividing
the outside from the inside
you don’t have to remove the skin
yet
just feel that moment
caught between together
and apart
every word
a wedge finding its way
between my layers
each word a manicured thumb
breaking me apart
but leaving me intact
mince well
serve with homemade
chips
Wow
Thanks 😀!
I love your work, Crow. This piece is no exception. Merry Christmas!
geo.
Thanks so much! Merry Christmas 🎄!
Beautifully done!
Thank you! Oddly, I think one of your poems inspired this.
I’m honored.
Thought so! 😊
I LOVE this! My favourite bit is the “caught between together and apart”.No mention of the tears. I can’t cut an onion without them. A real gem of a piece, Crow. I did a double take because I have an old poem called, “How Not To Cut A Mango”here: https://kat5361.wordpress.com/2015/07/05/how-not-to-cut-a-mango/
ha ha.. Thank you.I feel like this one came together for me I thought about tears< but I figured they'd be understood.
Not obscure enough for you? HA!
I loved this! Bravo.
Thanks. I liked this one one, too.
