to say the heat is a dry heat
is not to say it isn’t hot
or that hell will not cook you
regardless of the humidity
but i guess hot and sticky
is worse than hot
still
even my shadow
sweats
in the shade

“even my shadow sweats in the shade” — Oh, I have been here, many times. Perfect.
This is a sad poem for shadows. They can never sit under a shade or they’ll disappear, so they are always sweating in the heat.

Ha.. yes this dry heat vs humidity I remember… I didn’t think it mattered if it scorched your flesh to bones when I lived in Phoenix…
Exactly!
sweating shadows.. hmm.

This is such a powerful write !!
Thank you!
The wet heat is a sauna, the dry heat a barbecue: in both the shadows sweat. I like the wry humor in your poem.
Thank you!
It made me think that one could make hell worse with a little humidity. I liked how even the shadow sweats.
Thanks! Yes, I’m sure he’ll is a sticky place.
That ending line gave me pause – sticky even for shadows ~ Enjoyed your take on the prompt ~
Thanks. I guess shadows are by their natures sticky things.
You want to know what hot is try working in a restaurant kitchen in the dead of summer
And it’s five to ten degrees hotter in the kitchen then the outside
We used to wet a towel put it in the freezer get it frozen then wrap it around our neck
That’s some hot

Nice take on the prompt.
Shadows must stick to their masters or they’ll just be a stain on the sidewalk. That’s no fun at all. π
Ha ha ha. I like that metaphor. Totally stealing it.
No need to steal it; I’ll give it to you for Christmas! π π
Oh that was good, literally and perhaps with a metaphorical interpretation as well.
Ha ha, well said!
