Poem 20160118

i looked back
at a year’s worth of words
and found
my words had all
been used up

i didn’t know i had
a quota
but there they were
every last one
written out

trying to call up more
felt like coughing up dust
like trying to cast a shadow
in a darkened room
or playing tag with ghosts

luckily
the wind punched
a heart-shaped hole
in the clouds
and i was momentarily
saved

  1. “Like trying to cast a shadow in a darkened room”—fantastic line. Sometimes we need the silence to find new words and new voices. I’ve been through some long periods without writing, but I think the far side of those silences is always better. Needless to say, I don’t think either of you (C and crow) are out of words—judging by what I read today! 😉 Wishing you both inspiration and many more awesome pages this year!
